In an attempt to track patient wait times in their emergency department (ED) and identify opportunities for process improvement a Health System implemented a data analytics tool. By analyzing data collected over several months, they identified bottlenecks in the triage process. This led to the implementation of changes to the workflow of the triage clinicians leading to significant reduction in the ED patient wait times resulting improvement in patient flow. Continuous monitoring and adjustment helped the Health System to achieve significant improvements in ED efficiency and patient satisfaction scores.
